The Many Faces of Sherlock Holmes - Complete

Description

This is the fully completed collection of 15 caricature portraits of my favorite Sherlock Holmes actors from across the 20th and 21st Centuries. It's a project that I've wanted to tackle in numerous forms for over a decade, but I am so thankful and proud to have finally done it. That's how things have been for a lot of my recent projects. A lot of really old ideas are slowly but surely getting checked off.

If you are unfamiliar with some or most of these actors, I would encourage you to seek out their films or series, and their unique takes on the Sherlock character. Some are more kindly and friendly than others, some are more reserved or cold, some can even be quite intrusive or arrogant, if not completely crazed on drugs. It's actually stunning how many ways the character has been approached, and all are equally viable. I will admit I have a small problem with American actors portraying the character in a major production, or at least I'm not a fan of Downey Jr's attempt at it. Despite his vocal coach, his choice of British accent was rather strange, a little too clipped and somewhat slurred. Matt Frewer was far far worse in that respect, of course, but the reason he's on this list is that I actually enjoyed his version of The Hound of the Baskervilles above some of the others, including Basil Rathbone's, not because of Matt's Sherlock, but because of everything else. The location was great, the direction was great, the casting in all other respects was admirable and enjoyable, especially Watson, and the way they chose to reshuffle and approach the story's elements was one of the better versions, I think. My favorite film and actor, though, aside from Jeremy Brett (he's a given), was Nicol Williamson in The Seven Per-cent Solution. It is by far the most intense of all the Sherlock performances out there. Sherlock is compromised by his addition to cocaine, he is vulnerable, going mad, but once he is cured of his vice by Doctor Sigmund Freud, the two of them band together to solve a mystery, one which is very well executed on screen. It's a very special gem among the Sherlock films, one which many may not even know about until you stumble upon it.

Oh this is neat. I like your way with caricaturing these guys. They're all really recognizable for who theyre supposed to be. Super rad, it would make a neat poster, haha
